Sanistål was established on 1 January 1972 as a consequence of a merger between Lange & Unmack A/S and A. Schøth A/S. In the subsequent period, Sanistål experienced solid and rapid growth. As the product range and the number of shops increased, new customers came on board and Sanistål soon became a household name.

During the 70’s, Sanistål acquired three other companies which were incorporated into Sanistål. These were Skive Jern A/S in 1972, C.A. Petersen’s Eftf. in Haderslev in 1977 and in 1978 the company Jensen og Kjærsgaard A/S merged with Sanistål. Furthermore, in 1975 Jysk Maskinteknik was established in Aalborg.
In the 80’s Sanistål acquired three additional companies. In 1981 Vejle Jern- og Stålforretning A/S, in 1984 Brønderslev Jernhandel A/S and in 1987 it was the turn of the HVAC company Carl Eskildsen. In 1987, Fredericia Jern og Stål A/S merged with Sanistål.
During the 80’s, Jysk Maskinteknik opened branches in Vejle, Frederikshavn, Herning, Fredericia and Skive. The Herning branch was special in that it was set up in rented premises which was something quite new to Sanistål.
In 1984, Sanistål went public on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
With the 1991 acquisition of the shares in Hofman Stål A/S, Sanistål became a group – a great step for the Company. Moreover, in 1991 Jysk Maskinteknik set up a branch in Hjørring. 1996 was the year when Sanistål decided to merge the logos of Sanistål and Jysk Maskinteknik to form a new, integrated logo and name - Sanistål.
In the course of the 90’s, Sanistål merged with Jysk Rør & Stål A/S. Sanistål also acquired H.C. Puck A/S’ E Division in 1991, Struer Jern & Staalforretning A/S in 1992, Otto C. Jensen A/S and Løfquist & Søn in 1993, Transteknik A/S in 1994 and Nekton A/S in 1995.
1995 was an epoch-making year as Sanistål went international as a consequence of its acquisition of the shares in German MAX SCHÖN with departments in Poland, Estonia and Latvia. Today, MAX SCHÖN is a subsidiary company. In 1996, Sanistål acquired Verni Maskiner A/S, P.E. Ehrthardt A/S and Erik Hasselkjær A/S, in 1997 Otto Secher, in 1998 Industri Distribution A/S and in 1999, Sanistål acquired the shares of Serman & Tipsmark which is today a subsidiary.
In 1997, Sanistål extended its agreement with Danyard by establishing a purchasing function under the management of Sanistål
In 2001, Sanistål acquired the assets of Holstebro Jern- & Stålforretning A/S and the same year took over Brdr. Vesteraard A/S. 2001 was also the year when Sanistål opened its third branch on Funen and its second branch in Esbjerg
Taking effect from June 1st 2002, Sanistål acquires all shares of the tool wholesale company Brødrene Vestergaard A/S. The company has a considerable market share on the Zealand market in the Eastern part of Denmark within tools, technical products and interior design of service vehicles. The turnover of the fiscal year 2000/2001 totalled EUR xxx and at the time of the acquisition the staff counted 72 employees.
Taking effect from June 1st 2004, Sanistål took over the wholesale activities of Scan-Valve which at the same time changed name into Sanistål.
Again in January 2006 Sanistål made a new step towards living up to being a full-service supplier to Danish industry and handicraft. The fourth business area – Electrical Technology – was created through the employment of new employees with expertise within this specific area.
Taking effect from 23rd November 2006 Sanistål buys UAB Hidruva, a significant HVAC wholesaler in Lithuania. Hidruva imports and distributes a large number of renowned products within heat, ventilation, sanitation, tiles etc.
